The Edward Chiwayula Trust Fund

Before his sudden and untimely passing on April 17th, 2016, the late Edward Chiwayula was working as an enumerator on the Governance and Local Development Project, a collaborative venture between IPOR, the Program on Governance and Local Development at the University of Gothenburg and the Chr. Michelsen Institute. Edward had just graduated from the University of Malawi with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science in February 2016. Edward had been supervised in his final year of undergraduate studies by IPOR's Senior Partner, Dr. Boniface Dulani.

Edward had been taken ill whilst he was working with his colleagues on the GLD study in Bangwe ward, Blantyre. He was taken home and given time off to recuperate. Sadly, Edward passed on a week later. His remains were laid to rest at his home in Dowa on Tuesday, April 19 2016.

As one way of keeping Edward's memory alive, the collaborative partners in the GLD project agreed to set up a trust in Edward's memory to be called the Edward Chiwayula Trust. It is expected that the Trust will give out scholarships to University of Malawi students starting in the 2017 academic year, with seed funding contributed by colleagues from all three GLD research partner institutions.
